Manar Waheed

Manar is a civil rights attorney and strategist of over 20 years with expertise in immigration, national security, free speech, technology and social media, and surveillance, profiling, and discrimination. She currently serves as Senior Attorney at Freedom Together Foundation where she provides legal analysis and guidance in the Foundation’s support of people who have been denied power to build it in order to create a more democratic, inclusive, and sustainable society. Throughout her career, Manar has served in nonprofits, government, and the private sector. She has worked at numerous nonprofits from conducting policy analysis and development at the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) and South Asian Americans Leading Together (SAALT) to providing assistance to domestic survivors through civil and criminal systems at Legal Services of New York City and the National Clearinghouse for the Defense of Battered Women. During the Obama Administration, Manar served as the Deputy Policy Director for Immigration in the White House Domestic Policy Council where she assisted with the development of the President’s strategy for building a 21st century immigration system. Manar was also an Associate General Counsel on the inaugural Civil Rights Team at Meta, where she conducted company-wide civil rights analysis focused on enhancing protections for marginalized communities and moving the company towards equity on all its platforms. 

Manar received her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School and her B.A. from Wellesley College.
