Judge Zia M. Faruqui

Zia M. Faruqui serves as a United States Magistrate Judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, appointed on September 14, 2020. Judge Faruqui received his B.A. and J.D. from Georgetown University. Before his appointment, he was a litigation associate at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP in Washington, D.C., where he focused on government investigations and commercial litigation. He later served for twelve years as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Offices in St. Louis and Washington, D.C., handling cases involving terrorist use of cryptocurrency, North Korean weapons proliferation, darknet child exploitation, and the theft of cultural antiquities. He has also represented the Department of Justice internationally on financial crimes, cryptocurrency, and national security issues.
